Distinction

Just before going away on holiday I received the result for A363 and to my astonishment discovered I’d been awarded a distinction. I suppose I should have had more confidence in the Malta poems’ ability to stand on their own two feet and take on the world but… being on the inside of how tough OU Award Boards can be I wasn’t convinced I’d written well enough to get first class honours. For this year’s results it put the poems in the top 9% of submissions.

So what next? Well I’m pondering an MPhil or MA but have probably left it too late for this autumn.

It being the school holidays at the moment I’ve not written much, a couple of poems and several rough-ish drafts. I have however been doing lots of reading and have moved on from the merchant navy to the experiences of the RAF pilots on the island –

Tim Johnston, Laddie Lucas and Tom Neil.
